Montserrat has a damp Mediterranean climate. Such pointed topography on the mountain, with abrupt changes in altitude, make for sharp contrasts in climate over small distances; it is perhaps better to talk of micro-climates as opposed to one overall climate.
According to the weather station at the monastery, located at 740 m. in altitude, average yearly rainfall is 678 l./m². The average yearly temperature is between 13º - 14ºC, and the influence of the sea winds is notable, as there is often thick fog, which provides generous humidity for the plants. Snowfall is rare, but every once in a while it snows considerably.
