Immersive space in the Hall of Walls dating back to the 14th century
The Abbey of Montserrat has officially launched a new Immersive Space where it hope to give visitors a peek into monastic life, Benedictine values and the religious act, using technology and the senses as channels that can recount its history.
The space, located below the Saint Mary's Square and adjoining the Museum of Montserrat, is the so-called Hall of Walls, dating back to the 14th century. This underground room of great historical value preserves its medieval walls, which now coexist with the most advanced technology to generate new content for the museum.
It is structured around four different thematic axes:
- Welcome: here the welcoming spirit of the monastery is highlighted, allowing visitors to learn about its history and evolution, as well as the many depictions of Our Lady of Montserrat and the Escolania Boys Choir. All of this is presented through a panel of rotating tabs, interactive columns, projections and soundproof booths.
- Community: an audiovisual piece, interactive tables and other resources explain the history of the walls of the room, the activities of the community and the story of Saint Benedict of Nursia.
- Spirituality: a wonderful immersive audiovisual piece delves into the mystery of man and God and explores the key concepts of Christianity.
- Hope: an interactive screen in the shape of a baptismal font that concludes the tour with a message of hope and rebirth.
